How Long Do Gel Pads Last?

3 Gel Pads on Flex Belt

The 3 Gel Pads with Covers on that are used on The Flex Belt.

One of the nice things about ab belts is that there aren’t a lot of consumables (items that have to be replaced as you use the device). Especially since this belt has a rechargeable battery you take away the main cost associated with using an EMS toning belt each day.

However there is one item that you should be aware of that will need replacing and this goes for any ab belt you choose to own. In my initial flex belt review I didn’t mention much about the life span of the Gel pads, however they’re not a buy once and use forever item.

The Gel Pads for the Flex Belt have a plastic coating on both sides of them when you first take them out of the package. One side is affixed to the belt covering over the metal studs on your belt. The other side will be the surface that touches your skin when you’re wearing the belt.

Why gel pads?

There’s two reasons for why the Gel pads are used. The first is to create a good connection between the belt and your skin. The sticky surface of the pads means that the entire surface of each pad stays stuck to your skin. The second reason is to spread out the EMS that comes from the metal stud on the inside of your belt.

If it was just the metal stud that sent the EMS through your skin then it would all be in a very concentrated area since the surface area of the stud isn’t much bigger then a dime. By placing the gel pad over the stud the EMS is spread through the pad and then is able to affect a much larger area of surface on your stomach.

It’s important that you take care of your gel pads. By this I mean ensuring you replace the plastic covering over the gel pad as soon as you’re done a session. This ensures that no dust, dirt or pet hair (if you have dogs or cats like me) will get stuck on the surface. Keeping these clean prolongs the life. Unfortunately though they do break down over time from peeling them on and off of your skin.

In a perfect situation you could get 2-3 months out of a set of Gel Pads. I’ve been advising people to buy an extra set or two when you initially order your belt. Why? For two reason, first you’ll have them on hand when you need them and won’t have to wait for shipping and two you’ll only pay shipping once.

Also, I’ve seen a few flex belt coupons floating around that will discount your purchase or give you free shipping. If you use one of these coupons on your first order then you’ll save even more.
